The Asheville Cardboard Challenge -
|
The Global Cardboard Challenge was started by the Imagination Foundation in 2012, inspired by the short film ‘Caine’s Arcade.’ Since then, the Global Cardboard Challenge has had over 350,000 participants from more than 60 countries from Los Angeles to Melbourne to Bogota to Kuala Lumpur.
In 2015, Hall-Fletcher fourth graders, under the guidance of Digital Lead Teacher Darcy Grimes, participated in the Cardboard Challenge. They worked in small collaborative groups to create a game out of cardboard. They organized, measured, and designed a new game. They then showed off their games by allowing 1st grade students to play them. Building from that experience, Asheville City Schools has teamed up with Asheville Adventure Play to make the 2016 version of the Cardboard Challenge bigger and better. The Asheville Cardboard Challenge 2016 culminates in a free, community-wide event at the Montford Campus (formerly Isaac Dickson Elementary), 90 Montford Ave in Asheville, on Saturday, November 5 from 10 am to 2 pm.
